Student Spotlight!
11/14/22 Student Spotlight: Mysellas Eubanks, grade 2, Arthur Ashe Elementary School
Mysellas is a second grader in Sekou and Angela’s African Drumming class at Ashe Elementary. She likes that she gets to learn new kinds of music and enjoys playing the drums. Her favorite drum in the class is the Krin because it can make different sounds depending on where you hit it.
In addition to learning how to play the drums, they also learn how to care for them as Sekou brings in his own, professional drums for the students to use. Mysellas notes, “if you put your hands and shoulders on them [the drums], they will break.”
Mysellas’ favorite thing in the class is coloring pictures of the drums that they play, as she can be seen doing below with her classmates!
