I Do, We Do, You Do: The Student Instructions Show
CAPE’s arts integration model challenges conventional roles of teaching and learning by allowing students’ interests and feedback to redirect curricular exploration. As students, teachers, and teaching artists co-create, their artistic investigations shift their roles between creator, learner, and educator. I Do, We Do, You Do: The Student Instructions Show reimagines the classroom as a multidirectional space for learning and positions the students as instructors of an art making process.
In direct reference to instruction pieces by artists such as Sol LeWitt, Yoko Ono, and Merce Cunningham, CAPE invited students to devise simple visual art, music, dance, and performance instructions, and a list of materials for audiences to create artwork.
Visitors are encouraged to execute the instructions and pin their creations on the walls of the gallery. The exhibition will transform as the artworks accumulate on the walls of the gallery. You are welcome to return to the space to witness creative changes and create more art.

A medida que los estudiantes de CAPE trabajan en proyectos integrados en las artes, sus roles como estudiantes cambian a colaboradores, artistas y maestros a través del nivel de compromiso que sus maestros y artistas docentes establecen en el aula. En esta exposición, los estudiantes representan su papel de instrucción artística activando el espacio con sus propias piezas de instrucción artística. Esta exposición está inspirada en un proyecto de CAPE Artist/Researcher Partners de Vaughn Occupational High School, donde la maestra Laura Smith y el artista docente Chuck Jones presentaron a sus estudiantes los dibujos de instrucción de Sol LeWitt. Smith y Jones crearon instrucciones de dibujo similares a las de LeWitt y se las presentaron a sus alumnos para que crearan dibujos abstractos únicos.
La exposición invita a los estudiantes de CAPE a idear instrucciones sencillas de arte visual, música, danza y actuación y una lista de materiales para realizar la obra de arte. La exposición consistirá en las instrucciones hechas por los estudiantes impresas y colocadas a lo largo de las paredes y materiales frente a las instrucciones. Se invitará a los visitantes a seguir las instrucciones para crear sus obras y exhibirlas en el espacio. Las aulas participantes tendrán la oportunidad de visitar la exposición para interactuar, crear y dejar trabajos en la galería. Las obras de arte que los estudiantes y visitantes dejen a lo largo de la exposición se acumularán y transformarán el espacio.
