CAPE Students Visit StoryCorps

 In The CAPE Blog

Earlier this month, students from our after-school program at Telpochcalli visited StoryCorps at the Chicago Cultural Center. With their teacher Dana Oesterlin-Castellon and CAPE teaching artist Laura Saenz, the students interviewed each other and recorded conversations about gender and hair, ageism, food and culture, and inside and outside emotions.

“Our stories are meant to be shared and listened to. They come alive and are passed on when they are heard.” – Laura Saenz

This year, the students in Dana and Laura’s after-school class are using video and visual art to explore and experiment with storytelling. In early 2019, their work will be showcased at our Inside/Outside art exhibition. Click here to learn more about that and other CAPE exhibitions for the 2018-2019 school year!
